Use the original account
Check the number and profile
Creating a new account on another number does not automatically transfer old conversations. If you plan to change numbers, review Telegram’s built-in number-change process before losing access to the original number.
After reinstalling the app
Wait for your available history to sync
Ordinary cloud messages remain accessible after sign-in if the history was not deleted. Check the archive as well as the main list. Reinstallation is not a backup and does not reverse completed message deletion.
Treat Secret Chats separately
Keep the original device and session
Their history does not arrive through cloud sync. Telegram warns that logging out loses Secret Chats from that session. Do not log out of the old phone merely to test recovery.
If cloud chats still seem missing
Distinguish sync from deletion
Compare your account on another device, check connectivity and search All Chats. If the conversation was actually deleted, use the saved-copy checklist. Device migration and recovering destroyed history are different problems.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an iCloud backup for ordinary Telegram chats?
Ordinary undeleted history comes from the Telegram account. A phone backup should not be treated as a way to undo server-side deletion.
Can I move from Android to iPhone?
Ordinary undeleted cloud chats are available in the same account. Secret Chats have different limits.
Is clearing cache the same as reinstalling?
No. Clearing cache, clearing app data and logging out are separate operations.
