Search beyond your selected folder

Start with All Chats

Search for the person by name or username and try words from the conversation. A folder may exclude the chat from its view. If a contact changed their name, a distinctive phrase may be more useful than their old display name.

Check the archive

Hidden does not mean deleted

Archived chats remain in the account. Find the archive near the top of the chat list; some clients hide it until you reveal the top area. If the conversation is there, return it to the main list using the chat’s available actions.

Confirm the account and device

Cloud history and Secret Chats differ

After changing phones, make sure you signed in to the original account. Secret Chats do not transfer through ordinary cloud sync. Do not end the old session as a recovery experiment.

Settings or deletion?

If messages disappear by age, review auto-delete. If the issue affects only a group, ask about history visibility. When deletion is confirmed, move to checking copies that were saved earlier.

Your questions

Frequently asked questions

Does a missing chat mean I was blocked?

Disappearance alone does not establish blocking. Check search, folders and the account first.

Will Proof X search my entire account for it?

No such feature is claimed. Use Telegram’s own search for an existing conversation.
