Choose one conversation or account data
Limit the scope to what you need
For one conversation, open its menu in Telegram Desktop and find Export chat history. For broader account data, look in Advanced settings for the data export option. Names vary with client language and version.
Select a format and attachments
HTML for reading, JSON for processing
Choose the media types and period you need. An export can include sensitive conversations, so avoid selecting an entire account when only one chat matters. File availability depends on both the source and the selected export options.
Verify that the copy works
Keep the full folder
Open the result and check the required dates, text and attachments. Keep the entire export folder, not only its HTML file: media links may depend on neighbouring files. Restrict access to the copy and store it where you can find it.
Do not confuse reading with restoring
A local export is a separate record
Opening an export does not rebuild the original conversation inside Telegram with its original IDs and statuses. Exporting after deletion also does not substitute for a copy created before the messages disappeared.
Export and Proof X have different roles
A snapshot and incoming-message saving
An export captures history available at the time of export. Proof X works with incoming data after connection. For either option, check its coverage and confirm that the information you need has actually been saved.
Frequently asked questions
Can I export messages that are already deleted?
Do not rely on it. Export saves data available to the account, not a hidden trash archive.
Why can’t I find export on my phone?
These steps are for Telegram Desktop; mobile clients have different capabilities.
Is archiving a chat the same as exporting?
No. Archiving reorganises the list; exporting creates separate files.
Sources and limitations
Technical guidance is based on documentation. Menu names may differ in your app version. Proof X descriptions are based on project materials; saving coverage depends on data actually received.
Want to save future messages?
Proof X works with data received after connection. Review its capabilities and limits first.
