A different profile means different chats
Compare the account on your current and previous device. A different phone number, work profile or secondary account can show a different list of conversations. Check your own available profiles before treating the history as lost.
Look beyond the main list
Search and archive
Search for the person or a distinctive phrase, then inspect archived chats and folders. Moving a conversation does not necessarily remove its messages. If you find the chat with its history intact, message recovery is not needed.
Determine how much disappeared
One message or the entire history
Check whether disappearing messages or automatic deletion were enabled. Ask the other participant whether the fragment is still visible. Missing group history may be an access setting rather than a deleted private conversation.
Follow the app-specific next step
Protect what is still available
Use the Telegram troubleshooting guide if that is your app. Otherwise consult the relevant official help. Avoid clearing application data as a guess: it can remove useful local information without restoring deleted server content.
Frequently asked questions
Does an absent chat prove it was deleted?
No. Check your profile, archive, search and group access first.
Will reinstalling fix it?
Reinstalling does not undo server-side deletion and may remove local information.
Why did only one conversation disappear?
Archiving, deletion or application-specific behaviour are possible. That symptom alone does not identify the cause.
